This walk follows the Peddars Way National Trail and the tracks and roads through countryside to the east.
Of note is St Mary's Church at Houghton on the Hill. Parts of the church date from the eleventh century. Within the church there are some of the earliest known wall paintings of the Holy Trinity in Europe, in the 'Gnadenstuhl' style dating from 1090AD. These are therefore of international importance.
Again the military has had a strong association with the area. The site of an old USAF air base lies opposite the school.
This is a 6 mile walk, with two possible short cuts along the way.

Excellent walk well recommended, beautiful countryside views, well signposted. Quite roadway, plenty of tracks. Will do again. |

We tackled this walk in early March 2006 the scenery is excellent and St Mary`s Church at Houghton on the Hill is well worth a look even if locked, the little garden is always open.
If arriving by car there doesn?t appear to be anywhere to park save the Blue Lion Pub Car Park. (If using it, you may need to check with the landlord first) We parked there and purchased some refreshment on our return. The pub is very friendly, a typical English country pub and certainly adds to the walks appeal.
